Materials

Explosion W is constructed from layered structural materials and finished with shaped leather surfaces that allow the sculpture to articulate while preserving the clean lines of the horse’s form. The materials work together to express both strength and flexibility within the refined proportions of a modern sport horse.

Inspired by Explosion W's distinctive personality, this sculpture reflects the rare harmony of power, lightness, and composure that marks a horse of such uncommon presence. The work captures the suspended moment when strength, balance, and intention gather quietly within the horse.

Whistlejacket is an articulated study inspired by the iconic horse immortalized in classical painting. Her upright posture and expressive head demand precision and restraint, translating a historic image into dimensional form while preserving the vitality of the original subject.

Materials

Whistlejacket is constructed from carefully milled wood components and shaped leather surfaces, engineered for stability while preserving fluid articulation. Each part has been redesigned and refined to support the demanding curvature of neck, head, and stance.

George Stubbs’ legendary painting inspired this sculpture that reflects both artistic legacy and equine lineage. More than homage, it is a meditation on continuity—how bloodlines, memory, and image travel through time. The work honors not just a painting, but the enduring spark carried in every horse.

Inspiration

If you only knew the legacy you brought with you from the East and how your blood line weaves a thread to almost every horse we have surrounding us.
More than a legend you live on in the spark in the equine eyes of millions.

Ruffian

Ruffian is a poseable equine sculpture modeled after the legendary racehorse filly whose strength and speed left a lasting imprint. Her form balances power and refinement, capturing the intensity of motion held within a poised and sculptural stillness.

Ruffian is constructed from [PRIMARY MATERIAL TK] and finished with [SURFACE / PAINT TK], allowing her articulated structure to express tension and athletic build. The sculptural details emphasize muscle, line, and the forward energy of a racehorse in motion.

Inspired by the brilliance and brief life of the filly Ruffian, this work reflects both fire and fragility. Her blazing youth, fierce build, and unmistakable presence are honored here—not as tragedy, but as strength. She stands as a meditation on power, restraint, and reverence.

Your blazing youth and fierce physical build. You loved to run and fly around the track, and show the world the fire in your eyes. Whishing that we wouldn't have, why we couldn't and that we should have. Not pushed you too far.

Orion

Orion is a luminous white horse sculpture defined by quiet strength and meticulous detail. His articulated form allows for subtle shifts in posture, echoing the living presence of the horse. Gold flecks across his coat catch the light, creating depth, movement, and restraint.

Materials

Orion is crafted using hand-finished resin, water-based acrylic paint, and fine Italian white hair grain leather. The shoulders and hindquarters are wrapped in leather, while delicate gold paint accents are applied by hand, enhancing texture without overpowering the form.

Orion represents the third generation in Maria Talasz’s articulated equine journey. Emerging piece by piece from wood between 2018 and 2019, the sculpture reflects an exploration of movement, balance, and evolution—where craftsmanship and innovation meet to honor the spirit of the horse.

Inspiration

Orion is the horse that taught us what it means to ride.
The patient horse willing and taught well.
He takes the bit from your hand when you put the bridle on.
The horse that knows the trail, looks for the jump and lets you experience that moment that you know it wasn't you but him that made you win.

Maxima

Maxima is a fully articulated equine sculpture whose presence shifts with each subtle change in posture. Designed to be posed, she reflects the living intelligence of the horse—where movement, balance, and personality emerge through form, gesture, and quiet intention.

Materials

Maxima is crafted from American cherry and basswood, combined with fine leather and painted in warm historic pigment oil colors. Her mane and flowing tail are formed from deep black, silky goat hair, adding softness and contrast to the sculptural structure.

Created in 2017, Maxima is the sole sculpture of the second-generation Articulated Horse Model. She represents a pivotal moment in the artist’s exploration of movement and expression—where jointed form and traditional materials unite to capture the sensitivity and presence of the horse..

Blue Horse

Blue Horse

Blue Horse is an expressive, fully jointed study shaped from cherry wood and painted in deep Prussian blue. His visible joints and textured surface embrace construction rather than conceal it. When posed, he reveals shifting moods through gesture, balance, and subtle equine nuance.

Materials

Blue Horse is carved from small sections of fine cherry wood, assembled piece by piece and manually shaped with simple tools. He is finished in expressive Prussian blue pigment with delicate white star markings, allowing the segmented structure to remain visible.

Blue Horse explores flexibility and natural movement through exposed articulation and mechanical honesty. Hinged hooves, a segmented neck, and a movable mouth and ears allow him to echo authentic equine behavior. He reflects a study of gesture—where structure and emotion coexist.

Inspiration

You funny little shot at the moon. You still are as lovely as ever when you were born out of a cherry tree in the dark early hours of the morning.
Your blue coat suits you with all that little starry sparkle.
